“It’s easy to hide successfully when nobody wants to find you”

New York Times reports on the on going search for Mladic (October 21 2010). “It’s easy to hide successfully when nobody wants to find you,” said a key protector of Mr. Mladic’s fellow fugitive, Mr. Karadzic, offering a wry smile.

Mr. Mladic’s bodyguard testified in court that he rented apartment No. 20 at 118 Juri Gagarina Street, the Belgrade tower blocks pictured here, between 2003 and 2006.  In the background, an eight-minute walk away, are the apartment blocks where Radovan Karadzic was living at the time of his arrest in 2008 as a war criminal.  Until now, Serbia’s hopes of joining the European Union have been thwarted by a firm insistence that Mr. Mladic be handed over for trial at The Hague.
